Gamercraft - Enhanced tournaments
How to reinvent the competitive experience?
The challenge: Gamercraft players were constantly complaining about the long wait times for scheduled tournaments. "Why so long to start?" was a recurring message on Discord, leading to frustration and limited engagement.
My solution: I designed Flash Tournaments – instant tournaments allowing players to compete immediately, with no waiting time, while also optimizing the experience of traditional scheduled tournaments.
Observed impact: Flash Tournaments quickly became the platform’s main revenue stream, outperforming the scheduled ones. The Discord feedback changed completely: from "I've been waiting for 2 hours" to "Flash tournaments are so addictive!" This innovation turned player impatience into a competitive advantage for Gamercraft.

A competitive, fluid user journey
The typical user journey involved several steps:
Registration: The player selects a tournament and registers using credits or real money.
Waiting and Preparation: The player waits for the tournament to begin, knows the deadlines to complete games, and follows the established rules.
Results: Once all participants are done, the system analyzes scores and awards prizes.
This structure created several frustrations: long waiting times, difficulty attending scheduled tournaments, and impatience to play immediately. I identified these friction points and redesigned the experience to remove these frustrations.

Enhancing the user experience
Revisiting Information for Better Clarity
I worked closely with the Gamercraft community on Discord to understand the motivations behind choosing tournaments. Feedback guided my strategy:
Displaying essential details (cashprize, date, rules) directly on the homepage.
Providing clear details at registration: score calculation, prize structure, and payment.
Once joined, players received a full tournament overview: timelines, instructions, and progress updates.

Flash tournaments: play now, win quickly
To address players’ impatience, I introduced Flash Tournaments. Unlike scheduled tournaments, these events allowed players to register and play immediately. The main challenge was to maintain a consistent experience while simplifying the interface to clearly differentiate between the two types of tournaments.
The Flash Tournaments quickly became a success, generating more revenue than scheduled tournaments while satisfying players who wanted instant events.

User testing and research
Recruiting participants for user testing was a challenge, as most of the users were based in Brazil and spoke Portuguese. I leveraged platforms like Discord to identify English-speaking players and ensure the tests were representative. These tests validated the positive reception of the Flash Tournaments and provided insights for final refinements.

Why this project matters
This project highlights the importance of listening to users and innovating to meet their needs. By improving the tournament experience and introducing Flash Tournaments, I not only made the platform more attractive but also boosted its economic viability.
